Knee Pain

Knee pain can be caused by sudden injury, overuse or an underlying condition. Treatment will vary depending on the cause and nature.

CAUSES.

Being active is very beneficial for your joints but occasionally we can suffer injuries or develop done joint pain.

LIGAMENTS.

The ligaments of the knee are most commonly aggravated during twisting or impact injuries when playing sports.

Management would primarily consist of progressive strengthening/rehabilitation exercise to get you back to previous levels of activity.

MENISCUS.

Meniscal irritation can be quite painful and debilitating initially.

The meniscus aid in cushioning the knee and distributing load into the lower leg.

Again management is a combination of manual therapy to help restore normal movement combined with gym, home exercises.

OSTEOARTHRITIS.

The most common cause of knee pain in over 50's. Osteoarthritis is a normal process in our joints and again can be well managed with appropriate exercise, physiotherapy, without the need for surgical intervention.

Other knee conditions include tendinopathy, bursitis, patellofemoral pain, running related injuries.

With good, sensible management and advice the majority of knee pain can be greatly improved through physiotherapy.
